Authors Note: This piece is about how you can learn your lesson from anything like the boy in "Thank You Ma'am" by Langston Hughes.
Have you ever done anything that you regret, that you learned your lesson from? Almost everone has something they regret, including Roger from the story "Thank You Ma'am" by Langston Hughs.
From the eyes of Rogers I could defiantly tell he was frightened from the lady that was taking him. Who wouldn’t be? A lady you don’t even know is taking you to her house to wash up. But it was his fault, he tried to steel a pocketbook and thats what he gets. Like my dad says"What goes around, comes around Rodger definatly changed when he got to her house. We could tell that he was nervous and frightened and that he regretted doing what her did. When the door was wide open and no one was watching him he had a choice to make a run for it and stay and obey the woman. He stayed, that clearly shows that he isn't the bad boy anymore. But maybe everything did happen for a reason, that the woman somehow knew that she could change him.

Authors Note: This piece is retelling the short story “Dead Man’s Path” we read in class.
The short story “Dead Man’s Path” written by Chinua Achebe is about a selfish, stuck-up man named Michael Obi. The story is about a traditional pathway to a burial site that passes through the school grounds that has been there for centuries. Michael Obi was appointed the new headmaster of the school, he took a tour of it and saw how run down the grounds were. One night he saw an old woman walk across the flower patch in the school yard. He asked a teacher why and gave him a history of the people and the burial grounds, he also explained how they tried to close it before but there were big arguments so they left it open. Mr. Obi decided to close it, so he built a fence around it. The head priest of the natives goes to talk to him to try to convince him to reopen the pathway but Mr. Obi unfortunately says no. Two days later after a death in the village, the new headmaster wakes up to find his school ruined. The supervisor came to inspect the school and when he saw the condition of the school he fired the headmaster.

Life's What You Make It
Annemarie Wilcox, or Shug as her family calls her describes life as she knows it as a twelve-year old, how everything that was once so simple, is now so complicated. Mark, her best friend, secret crush, and the guy she has known forever isn’t acting like a best friend anymore. He betrayed her; he left Annemarie for his guy friends. Annemarie is the kind of girl that tries to hang out with the cool girls, even though she knows that they don’t like her. Elaine, Shugs girl best friend just got a boyfriend Hugh, that’s all she ever thinks about, Elaine doesn’t pay attention to Annemarie anymore because she is too busy with Hugh.
Now Annemarie doesn’t have anyone, she doesn’t feel accepted, she feels ugly, she thinks no one likes her. But that isn’t true; Jack Conley secretly admires Annemarie even though he makes fun of her every day. The end of summer is where her life changes, she realizes that she doesn’t need a jerk like Mark and Annemarie falls in love with Jack Conley after he kisses her. After that, she notices that maybe, just maybe being an average twelve year old girl isn’t really that bad and now she feels beautiful for once.
